R. Glenn Lister, Attorney at Law

Glenn is a South Carolina native, having grown up in Newberry, South Carolina. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from The Citadel and his Juris Doctor (law) degree from the University of South Carolina, where he finished tenth in his graduating class and was a member of the Order of the Wig and Robe legal scholastic organization. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in May 1977, and to the United States District Courts in July 1977. He was a member of a general practice law firm in Charleston until he opened his own law office in Mt. Pleasant (Charleston County), South Carolina, in June 1981. Glenn conducted a broad general legal practice for many years, but has primarily limited his practice to matters relating to adoptions in recent years.

Glenn is a US Air Force veteran and served for four years in the Air Defense command. He was honorably discharged as a Captain from his last duty station in Keflavik, Iceland.

Glenn's law practice focuses on all adoption matters, including (but not limited to) birth parents, private placements (in-state and out-of-state), agency placements and placements by the South Carolina Department of Social Services. His practice also regularly handles foster parent adoptions and pre-adoption representation, inter-family adoptions, step-parent adoptions, adult adoptions, termination of parental rights actions, and name changes. Additionally, Glenn frequently deals with the South Carolina finalization of foreign adoptions and the "domestication" of foreign adoptions.

Our office handles adoption and adoption-related cases throughout South Carolina and is prepared to be of service for families adopting South Carolina children and for South Carolina families adopting children from other states and countries. Glenn has finalized the adoption of more than seven hundred children and has often spoken on the legal issues of adoption in presentations to foster parent associations, Department of Social Services applicant seminars, and Bethany Christian Services applicant seminars. He previously represented DSS as a private contractor in DSS termination of parental rights actions for more than five years.

As a personal note: I see our adoption services as a ministry, and I desire to serve God in this capacity. I am a member of the Christian Legal Society. My loving wife, Jane, and I are active members of East Cooper Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant, and I have served as a deacon, a teacher, and on many committees. We have two wonderful sons, both of whom have seminary degrees and lovely, Godly wives. We presently have five fantastic grandchildren and counting.

Soli Deo Gloria!

"I prayed for this child and the LORD has granted me what I asked of Him. So now I give him to the LORD. For his whole life he will be given over to the LORD." – 1 Samuel 1:27-28 (NIV)
